- Description:
- As you can see, there is almost a month
between my last hike and this one. I wasn't slacking, I was on
vacation. Most people would think that the trekking activity would
increase over vacation, but not when you go back to North Dakota. I guess
I could have walked from one flat field to the next, but I decided to do most of
my hiking on the golf course with friends and family.
- When I got back to Idaho, Brendon
and I were off for Lookout Lake & Mountain, which is located east of the
Upper Priest Lake. I remember this hike distinctly because I was sick with
a bad cold (boo hoo) and I didn't enjoy myself until we finally ascended to the
top.
- The lake was only about a mile in from
the trailhead, and
then the climbing began. We threw rocks from the 200' vertical cliff, climbed around on
the old and new lookout towers, took some photos, and ate our lunches.
There were spectacular views of both Priest Lake and Upper Priest Lake, and you could even see Chimney Rock to the south. After replenishing my strength (boo hoo again), we returned to Brendon's Ford
Ranger for the rather long drive back to Priest River (ID). One other thing to note, I saw my first moose on the drive to the
trailhead.
