    • Miles Hiked:  3.0
    • Elevation Gain:  600'
    • Hiking Partner(s):  Bill & Vicki Keuther, Becky & Taylor Just
  • Description:
    • One of the other things we did when Bill and Vicki came out to visit was go down to Lewiston (ID) and take a jet boat tour into Hell's Canyon.  On the way home we decided to make a detour and check out some more water falls near Elk River (ID).  Elk River is approximately 30 miles east of Moscow (ID) and 30 north of Orofino (ID).
    • The Elk Creek Falls are actually a chain of three separate falls that have a trail system leading to all three.  We started with the falls farthest up the river and then made our way down to the lower falls.
    • Between the first and second falls, I am pretty sure we took a trail that was supposedly off limits.  After scaling the side of  very steep hill, we had to cross a barrier to get to the viewing site for the second water falls.  When we got over the barrier, there was a sign that read, "Please Do Not Cross the Fence."
    • We had a picnic at the final set of falls and then Vicki started hoarding all of the water for the walk back out.  Coming into Elk River Falls is all downhill, so the hard part is getting back.  We all made it back safely, and Vicki didn't become dehydrated.
  • Maps:
    • No maps for this hike.
  • Photographs:
    • Here is Becky posing at the first falls.  I told her to climb up on the log that had fallen across the water in the background, but she wouldn't do it.
    • The second waterfall was the longest of the three.
    • The viewing point of the third waterfall is where we had our picnic.
