- Description:
- Since I was in Spokane for the day, I decided to head down to
Riverside State Park and go for a walk that is mentioned in Rich
Landers' "100 Hikes" book. The Spokane River trailhead
is located near the unique basalt formations known as the Bowl and
Pitcher in northeast Spokane along Nine Mile Road.
- This easy hike follows the Spokane River north from the above
mentioned trailhead. There wasn't much traffic, which I am
assuming has to do with the time of the year. The area had several
picnicking spots that probably get more heavily used in the summer
months.
- I would have to say that the first mile was the most enjoyable as you
are able to view the rock formations and stay close to the river
including the Devil's Toenail Rapids. Other than this, I would
recommend biking it as the trail is flat and you could cover the entire
trail much quicker. Nonetheless, I knocked off another one of the
100 hikes and had an ok time.
