- Description:
- The hike leads you to a small
isolated high alpine lake that provides you with varied scenery.
To reach the Jennie Lake trailhead from Idaho City, drive north 18 miles
on highway 21 to forest service road #384. Take this road 6 miles
to a junction with road #348 and stay on it for another 7.5 miles where
you will reach road #372. Hang a sharp left and go .1 miles to the
trailhead.
- The trail follows Bear Creek on
the west side and alternates between forests and open meadows. At
approximately 2.5 miles, the trail bends east towards a wall of high
rocky peaks. The final half mile turns south up a steep hill and
emerges at Jennie Lake. I didn't have a lot of time for scrambling
around, so I just had a bit to eat, took a few photos, and headed back
out.
- It wasn't a real difficult hike
and it allowed me to get out again before the snow started to
fall. I would only return if I made a backpacking trip out of it
and did some climbing around on the ridges above the lake.
