- Description:
- I was working in Grand Junction (CO) and stumbled on this short hike
right outside of town in the Colorado National Monument. It had
been exactly two years since I had an assignment in Grand Junction (CO),
and I generally hike to Mount Garfield outside of Palisade.
However, there wasn't enough light in the day to drive out there, hike a
couple thousand feet, and get back down with out spending a lot of time
in the dark. This ended up being a reasonable alternative that I
actually ended up enjoying significantly.
- When I reached the trailhead, I was simply planning on hiking/trail
running (or trail jogging in my case) for around an hour. As it
turns out, I had just enough time to reach Liberty Cap and get back down
without being in the dark too long. This is a fun, steep trail
that allows you some great scenery and views of the surrounding area.
I was able to round trip the hike in just under an hour. I liked
it so much, I went back two nights later. I didn't have my camera
on either of these two trips, but I brought it the following week and
took a few photos.
