- Description:
- After weekend plans fell apart due to adverse weather, the four of us
ended up hooking up and decided to check out an area in Vail (CO) where
we had not climbed at before. The Firehouse is another ice
climbing crag in east Vail that offers a lot of different mixed and ice
lines. Jeff and I started off in Firehouse East each leading the
center of the curtain (WI4) that got fairly stiff for the last 15 to 20 feet of the
route. Dan and Austin each led the West Slab (WI3) in Firehouse
West before setting up a top-rope on West Corner (M4). We all took
a run on the mixed line, and then Jeff and I each led West Slab while
Dan and Austin went over to Firehouse East. We set up a top-rope
on one of the hard (M6+) lines on the right side of Firehouse West and
messed around until we felt pumped silly. After this, we
finished the day taking another lead up the West Slab before calling it
a day. The alpine slide from the Firehouse Falls back down towards
the trailhead was a lot of fun and worth the hike up by itself.
