I got out several times in 2003 and also made it to Oregon, Utah, and Colorado for a hike.
With Mount
Timpanogos on July 21st, I passed both my mileage and elevation gain totals
from 2002. This year is far and away the most successful hiking season
I have had. I anticipate that it will be extremely difficult to beat.
I actually doubled my previous elevation gain high.
I also finished
the Idaho 12ers as of August 17th, 2003. I didn't even know or hear
about the 9 peaks in Idaho over 12,000' until the Spring of 2002 when a
friend told me about them. At that time, I had already hiked two of them and
thought it would be an excellent goal to try and climb them all. It
took me two more summers and a couple of unsuccessful attempts at
Breitenbach and Lost River Peak, but I finally did it. I even climbed
Mount Church and Donaldson Peak twice to make it "official" since
that is a traverse hike.
In 2003, I met Dan Robbins of
www.idahosummits.com. Dan is an Idaho mountain enthusiast and I finished the Idaho 12ers with him. We sort of went out with a bang
finishing two 12ers back to back. He did Breitenbach and
Idaho, while I completed Leatherman and Idaho on August 16th and 17th.
I should note that I
moved to Colorado in October of 2003. Going forward into 2004, I will
be focusing on Colorado 14ers.
