  • After completing the Idaho 12ers in August of 2003, I needed to find another hiking goal.  I ended up moving to Denver in the Fall, so naturally I turned my attention to the Colorado 14ers.  A co-worker of mine had already given me Gerry Roach's "Colorado's Fourteeners" book some time ago, so I started to do some reading to see what I was up against.  I determined that I would like to complete them all by the time I was 40 (10 years) and attempt to complete at least one difficult peak each year so they don't pile up on me towards the end.

  • At this point, I'm slightly ahead of schedule because I have been able to complete several easy mountains over the past winter and spring.  As of May, I have also climbed a difficult peak for 2004.  With my climb of Mount Rainier on July 31, 2004, I equaled my mileage and elevation gain totals from 2003.

  • In the interest of my marriage and career, the 2004 hiking season has officially come to a close as of the end of September.  I'm extremely happy with the year's results and feel as though I accomplished quite a bit in 2004.  I'm going to hang up the old hiking shoes for a while and change my priorities for the Fall and Winter.
