- January
- June
- The year is almost half over.
- September
- This is too cool not to brag about.
- I went out for a long bike ride with my daughter and when I got back, my
wife said I better call Jeff S. because my phone rang three times in the
past half hour. Jeff S. is one of my primary climbing partners that lives
down the street from me. So I return his call and he asks, "Guess
who's staying at my house tomorrow night?" I have no clue. He
quickly tells me Steve House is spending the night with him. I know
Steve House is on a tour promoting his new book "Beyond the Mountain" and has
a reading at the Patagonia store in downtown Denver the following night.
- Jeff is friends with Eli Helmuth who is a friend and climbing
partner of Steve House. Eli called Jeff to see if he might put Steve
up before he flies out to California the following day. So Jeff and I,
along with a couple other friends of ours, Jeff F., Brian K., and Mark C., head
downtown to listen to Steve read from his book, present a slideshow, and
tell a few stories. After the presentation, we ask if he wouldn't mind
having a beer with us. So the five of us hang out with Steve "Fncking"
House for a couple hours after the slideshow.
- Imagine sitting around having a beer with Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods,
or Joe Montana. That's what we did, only the sport was climbing and the
individual was Steve House. He shared more climbing stories, answered
questions, and was totally cool with hanging out with some of his fans.
- "The best high-altitude climber in the world today." Reinhold
Messner regarding Steve House
